• According to B.C. Rawath there is six stages in Indian history.
• 
  

                             Ist stage        :  1600 - 1773

                             IInd stage     :  1773 - 1858

                             IIIrd stage    :  1858 - 1909

                             IVth stage    :  1909 - 1935

                             Vth stage      :  1935 - 1947

                             VIth stage    :  1947 - 1950

• The British came to India in 1600 as traders, in the form of East India company which had the exclusive right of trading in India under a charter granted by queen Elizabeth.  
• Year 1608: The first place of East India company ( EICO ) was established at Surat in India.
• After 1612: EICO got permission for building castles, from Mughal Empires.
• Year 1667: They got permission for printing coins.
• Year 1726: They established Mayer Courts in Madras, Bombay and Calcutta. 
• Year 1757: Plassey war was the base point for formation of British governance in India, winner : Robert Clive.
• Year 1764: Buxar war. 
• In 1765, the company, which till now had purely trading functions obtained the 'diwani' (i.e., rights over revenue and civil justice) of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, from Bengal Nawab Shah Alam. 
• Year 1772: Warren Hastings introduced collector system, first time in India.

• క్రీ.శ. 1600 : ఈస్టిండియా కంపెని స్థాపన . 
• ఎలాజబెత్ రాణిచే  జారీ చేయబడ్డ చార్టరును  అనుసరించి కంపెని స్థాపించబడింది చార్టర్ అనగా ఒప్పందం . 
• 1608 : సూరత్ లో మొదటి వర్తక స్థావరంను EICO (   ఈస్టిండియా కంపెని ) ఏర్పాటు చేయడం . 
• 1612 తరువాత   :  వివిధ ప్రాంతాలలో కోటల నిర్మాణానికి హక్కులు పొందారు. 
• 1667 : నాణేల ముద్రణకు అనుమతి పొందడం . 
• 1726 : మద్రాసు , బొంబాయి , కలకత్తాల యందు మేయర్ కోర్టులను స్థాపించారు.
• 1757 - ప్లాసీ యుద్ధం : భారత్ లో బ్రిటిష్ సామ్రాజ్య స్థాపనకు పునాదులు వేసింది , ప్లాసీ యుద్ధం విజేత : రాబర్ట్ క్లైవ్ . 
• 1764 - బక్సార్ యుద్ధం .
• 1765 : బెంగాళ్ నవాబు షా ఆలం నుండి బ్రిటిష్ వారు "దివానీ" (బెంగాలళ్, బీహార్ , ఒరిస్సాల యందు పన్ను వసూలళ్ల అధికారంను బ్రిటష్ వారికి కల్పించడం ) హక్కులను పొందారు. 
• 1772 : వారన్ హేస్టింగ్స్ భారత్ లో తొలిసారిగా కలెక్టర్ వ్యవస్థను ప్రవేశపెట్టాడు.
